Geosense South Africa gains double accreditation from the Ordnance Survey for its Imagery Layer

Geosense South Africa, based in Bellville Cape Town, is pleased to announce that it is now an accredited supplier to Ordnance Survey Great Britain for both the supply and management of OS Mastermap Imagery. The recent double accreditation is the culmination of months of hard work, and reflects the high production standards implemented by Geosense across all its Production Areas.

The production processes involved to create the MasterMap Imagery layer, and the processes involved to integrate other suppliers imagery into the Layer have been fully checked, verified and documented by the Ordnance Survey to ensure that all data produced meets the high standards required for OS MasterMap, with specific attention paid to accuracy, colour and geometric fidelity, as well as data control and management. Management of the OS Mastermap Imagery Layer involves the collation, checking, colour balancing and edge matching of some 140,000 square kilometres of photography over the next year, to be added to a dataset that already includes some 12 terabytes of Imagery.

Geosense, in conjunction with Getmapping and the Getmapping Partnership, have used traditional frame and Vexcel UltraCam D digital photogrammetric cameras to supply the OS with 25cm resolution imagery of Scotland to use in the MasterMap Imagery Layer. This has amounted to over 60,000 sq km of imagery.

Matt Murphy, MD of Geosense South Africa, spoke with pride in the company's successful completion of the accreditation process. "The double accreditation award demonstrates our continuing commitment to building both quality processes and ongoing relationships with our Customers. The award is also a tribute to the high calibre Professionals across all our Divisions who have worked so hard over the last six months to achieve this goal."
